A complex underground extension bringing two of Naples’ major rail networks together beneath one of Italy’s most densely layered cities.

The project involved the final design of a 3.3 km heavy metro line capable of simultaneous operations by Alifana Railway trains and Naples Underground Line 1. The route combines cut-and-cover and bored tunnelling, with four underground stations — three built using cut-and-cover excavation between slurry walls, and one formed by widening an existing line tunnel.

Team Group delivered the complete final design package covering station finishes and auxiliary buildings, electrical substation, permanent way, all operating systems including signalling, automation, fire prevention and safety, and full coordination of design and construction phases.
