Final design of three sections of Rome’s Metro Line C — a 22.5 km driverless underground line beneath one of the world’s most archaeologically sensitive cities.

Rome Metro Line C is a fully automated driverless metro line running 22.5 km with 30 stations, designed to carry 24,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Construction required advanced techniques including EPB tunnelling machines and deep freeze methods to navigate Rome’s complex subsoil and minimise impact on the city’s archaeological heritage.

Team Group delivered the final design for three sections totalling 10 km and 12 stations: Section 4 (San Giovanni–Malatesta), Section 5 (Malatesta–Alessandrino) and Section 6 (Alessandrino–Torrenova). The scope covered station functionality and architecture, structural design, environmental impact and urban interference assessment, technical installations including ventilation, mechanical, electrical, special systems and fire prevention, works planning and site preparation, bills of quantities and cost estimates, and geological and geotechnical assistance.
