The first phase of Nigeria’s national railway transformation — a 186 km standard gauge line bringing Abuja into the country’s emerging rail network.

The Idu–Kaduna railway is the first phase of the Nigerian Railway Modernization Project, which will ultimately deliver a new standard gauge line running 1,315 km from Lagos to Kano, with connections to Abuja via Minna and Kaduna. The 186 km single-track line serves nine stations and is designed for mixed passenger and freight operations at speeds up to 150 km/h.

Team Group has provided technical oversight since October 2009, covering pre-contract technical, economic and contractual assistance, design vetting across all phases — including alignment verification, application of technical parameters, checking of Chinese specifications against international standards, and signalling and telecommunications design — as well as works supervision and assistance with final testing, commissioning and maintenance procedures.
