An independent design audit for Uruguay’s most significant modern railway project — a 273 km freight corridor connecting the country’s interior to a deep-water export port.

The Ferrocarril Central is a new railway line running 273 km between Montevideo and Paso de los Toros through the central part of Uruguay. Commissioned by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane on behalf of Uruguay’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the line is designed to carry 4.5 million tonnes of freight per year — linking the country’s northern interior to a competitive deep-water export port and strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industry. The infrastructure supports mixed loads including cellulose, timber, containers, fuel, chemicals and general cargo, as well as passenger services.

Team Group carried out a comprehensive independent audit of the project design, covering coordination and management, structural engineering across all major works types, geotechnical verification and hydraulic engineering verification.
