A landmark crossing over the Tigris — designed to bridge not just a river, but the history of a city.

Commissioned by Iraq’s Ministry of Construction and Housing through the State Commission for Roads and Bridges, Team Group developed an alternative preliminary design for a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Tigris River in north-east Baghdad.

The proposed design features a single central pylon with two legs connected by three transverse elements — shaped to evoke a historic gateway across the river. With two equal spans of 285 metres each, the structure minimises interference with both river shores while achieving a dramatic presence on the Baghdad skyline. The deck employs a steel-concrete composite structure.
