A 277 km standard gauge railway at the heart of Nigeria’s steel industry — designed and supervised end-to-end from feasibility through to commissioning, spanning three decades.

The Itakpe–Ajaokuta–Warri Rail Line forms part of Nigeria’s Central Corridor, connecting the iron ore mine at Itakpe through the steel complex at Ajaokuta to the Delta Steel Plant in Aladja, Warri. The line also carries coal in the reverse direction from Warri to the Ajaokuta steel plant. Running 277 km through Kogi, Edo and Delta States, the standard gauge (1,435 mm) double-traction line serves 14 stations plus an exchange yard and a loading/unloading yard, at a maximum design speed of 150 km/h.

Team Group has been engaged on this project since 1990, delivering one of the most comprehensive scopes of any project in its portfolio: feasibility study and modal comparison, aerophotogrammetry and mapping, right-of-way survey, preliminary and final engineering design, contract documents, bid evaluation, back-up design and project monitoring, tender preparation and evaluation for rolling stock and signalling systems, station and ancillary facilities design, maintenance personnel training, test runs, commissioning, and full construction supervision.
