Rehabilitation of Ghana’s Western Line and the launch of a new suburban rail service connecting the twin cities of Takoradi and Sekondi — bringing four renovated stations, new signalling and two new DMU trainsets to the network.

The project covers the rehabilitation and renovation of the first segment of Ghana’s Western Line — a narrow gauge (1,067 mm) corridor linking Takoradi to Sekondi via Kojokrom — and the establishment of a new suburban passenger service between the twin cities. The rehabilitated line is designed for passenger speeds of 120 km/h and freight speeds of 80 km/h, with a 21-tonne axle load and 54E1 rails on dual-gauge prestressed concrete sleepers.

The scope included renovation of three existing station buildings at Takoradi, Butuan and Kojokrom, construction of the new Sekondi Station, design and installation of a new signalling and telecommunications system, supply of two air-conditioned DMU trainsets on narrow gauge bogies, and rehabilitation of existing rolling stock.

Team Group provided technical assistance during contractor selection, design vetting, works supervision and assistance with testing and commissioning.
