A 400 km cross-border railway connecting Zambia to Malawi — and through it, to the Indian Ocean ports of Nacala and Beira.

The Chipata–Mchinji railway connects the TAZARA line in western Zambia to the Malawi rail network at Mchinji, completing an east-west corridor that links the Zambia–Malawi border region to the port of Nacala, and alternatively to the port of Beira via Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mulanje. Built to narrow gauge (1,067 mm) and spanning 400 km, the line is designed to carry both intercity passengers and freight, transferring traffic from road to rail and supporting regional economic integration across southern Africa.

Team Group provided technical assistance throughout the EPC contract negotiation and tender phase — including revision of the contractor’s preliminary technical and economic documents — followed by design vetting and works supervision through construction.
